This is THE question that all first-time hair extension customers ask themselves: how many bundles should I order so that I don't end up with too few... or with unnecessary surplus? The answer depends on several factors: desired length, desired density, installation method, and hair texture. Here's a clear guide to calculating the right quantity.
Factors that vary the quantity
Before giving numerical benchmarks, it's important to understand why there isn't a single answer:
- Length: The longer the strand, the heavier it is, and the more material is needed to achieve good density throughout the length.
- Desired density: A natural and discreet look requires less hair than a very thick, "glamorous" volume.
- Installation method: A sew-in weave, tape-ins, or an installation with a closure/frontal do not use the same amount of hair.
- Texture: Curly or coily hair visually appears more voluminous at the same weight as straight hair, so sometimes a little less is needed for an equivalent effect.
- Your natural hair density: The denser your base hair, the less extensions you need for a harmonious result.
Length guidelines (for a classic weave, 3 to 4 bundles)
As an indication, for a sew-in installation with a full and natural look, for a full head:

- Light / discreet volume: 20 to 30 tapes
- Medium / natural volume: 30 to 40 tapes
- Full / glamorous volume: 40 to 50 tapes
The number of tapes remains relatively stable regardless of length (unlike weaving), as each tape covers a fixed area of the scalp.
The particular case of very long or very thick hair
Beyond 65-70 cm, it is common to add an extra half bundle to compensate for the weight and natural tapering of the strand towards the ends, which can give a "sparse" effect at the bottom if the density is not sufficient.
Conversely, if you are looking for a deliberately lighter and airier look (for example, for discreet daily use), it is entirely possible to reduce by half to one bundle compared to the benchmarks above.
